Edith is stuck in a loveless marriage to a brewery owner. Looking to fill the void in her life, she begins meddling in the romantic affairs of her quite lonely maid, Anna May. Since Anna May is illiterate, Edith helps her write love letters to Charles, a London businessman she met by chance at a carnival. Charles falls in love, unaware that he’s communicating with Edith.
