Youth Group News - May 2010

During the Summer term(from Tuesday 13th April) we will be working towards our Summer Production on 17th & 18th July entitled Blackout by Davey Anderson.

Blackout is a play in a very different format, in that there are no "characters" defined and no stage directions. A lot will be left to the audience's imagination.

"James is a young offender and is charged with abuse, arson and attempted murder. He grew up in a household in which his father beat his mother from the day they were married to the day they divorced. James longs to talk to his mother but she ignores him. The only "friend" and "father figure" was his Grandfather who sadly passes away. James was bullied unmercifully at school for being "clever". All of these things were out of James' control so he turned to something that he could control: "self-harming". When this was not enough he turned to crime. Brought before the courts, an understanding judge puts him on probation for three years, with the threat of 10 years in jail if he re-offends. His Mum is waiting outside for him and hugs him. It is at this point that James begins to turn his life around. A poignant line in the play is almost the last line --"All I really wanted was someone to sit up and take notice."

Tickets at £4 are available from Val Middleton-Egan  0161 439 7863.

Come and Join Us

The pressures of the current school curriculum means that those students aged 15 and 16 are under a different sort of regime these days.  Gone are the days of years of study, with a final Summer exam.  In 2010, students are assessed more or less continually, and have practice exams, mock exams, modular exams, resit exams, and a wealth of coursework.  The result of this is that a lot of our current members may find the workload a stretch, and decide that "something has to give."  Therefore, if you, or someone you know, is interested in joining our Youth section, then please do get in touch with Val Middleton-Egan (Youth Group) or 0161 439 7863, or 07921 511796 or me (0161 278 1455 or 07830 134931).

Most importantly, my thanks to those members who regularly support us in our endeavours; it is never taken for granted and very much appreciated.
